This sturdy wedding arch was crafted as a heartfelt gift for a best friend and his wife, serving as their ceremony focal point during their wedding in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Constructed from pressure-treated pine 6×6 posts with 8- and 10-inch ½” black decorative carriage bolts and anti-slip washers, it features a MinWax “Golden Oak” stain chosen by the couple and sealed with Thompson’s WaterSeal Multi-Surface waterproofer for easy, one-coat waterproofing.
Measuring 6 feet wide by 8 feet tall with 2-foot stabilizing feet, its standout modular design prioritizes both aesthetics and convenience: half-lap joints on the three main beams and 45-degree bracing allow easy assembly/disassembly using pre-drilled holes and bolts, breaking down into just five pieces (two posts, one horizontal beam, two feet) for efficient transport. Originally engineered for beach stability with sand screw holes in the feet and eye hooks for rear ratchet tie-downs to withstand hurricane force winds but with no support components visible from the front, the weather-forced indoor move at the pier house didn’t test those features, but the overbuilt sturdiness shone through.

The groom proudly showcased the craftsmanship to wedding guests, calling it a “master craftsman” creation and a “family heirloom” destined for generations. Inspired by a Pinterest design the couple loved, the build incorporated original structural innovations and took approximately 35 hours to complete. The arch’s reusability extends its legacy—the bride’s sister plans to use it for her wedding, and it will serve as yard decor for the original couple.
