This handcrafted fiddle knife is designed to slice through large loaves of bread with ease and precision. I built it as a surprise birthday gift for my wife, who dropped hints by sending me Amazon links—she thought she was just suggesting gifts, not expecting me to carve one myself. Now, it’s an on-going conversation at home: she sends links for play tables or porch decor, and I’ll say, “Don’t buy it—I can build it better and cheaper!”
The knife is made from white oak and a fiddle knife blade from Amazon, finished with a few coats of Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner for a food-safe, natural look. Its standout feature is the 100% original design—I traced my hand to shape the handle for a perfect, comfortable grip, inspired by some dull online designs I wanted to improve. I started with a battery-powered grinder and Kutzall shaping discs (pricey but worth it), then hand-sanded, chiseled, and filed it into shape—my first carving project, turning a block of wood into this unique tool over 15-20 hours of fun effort.
